今天我們一起來看看關於遷移的字彙：migrate, immigrate, emigrate。
是不是很容易搞混呢？
在中文都是遷徙的意思，但在英文卻分成遷徙、遷入、遷出！
在中文我們會說，他移民到美國去了，但會說他從台灣移出至美國嗎？
聽起來是不是怪怪的，不過在英文的確是這麼用的。
Migrate (v.) [intransitive + from/to]

if birds or animals migrate,
they travel regularly from one part of the world to another
通常用在動物季節性或定期性的遷徙活動。

if people migrate, they go to
live in another area or country, especially in order to find work [↪ emigrate]
或是用在人們外出找工作時使用，但不是指移民。
可以搭配的介係詞有from 或 to 。
怎麼使用呢？看是要用在移出(to)或移入(from)，都可以
Many birds migrate from the North to the
South in winter.
例句：

另外和migrate相關的字，一定要會就是：
Migrant (n.) 可以用來指打零工的人。外出找工作，只有過年才回家，譬如說台商，幾乎很少回台灣，我們也可以稱呼他是migrant worker。但在托福考試中，比較會看到的是游牧民族，遊牧民族的工作性質，就是migrant worker，定時遷徙找工作，而游牧民族的英文就是nomadic
people。
接著我們來看看：
Immigrate (v.) =move out
To come into a country in order to live
there permanently
到另一個國家永久居住，也就是移民。
也可以用來暗指開拓殖民地的移民。
所以搭配的介係詞通常是to。
主詞只能是人，不能是動物！
例句：
Britain immigrated many colonists to many
other new areas.
Emigrate (v.) =leave
To leave your own country in order to live
in another country
指離開自己家鄉去另一個國度生活，也是永久居留。
主詞也是人，不能使用在動物身上。
通常搭配的介係詞是from/to。
例句：
The slave emigrated from England to
Australia.
統整來說，我們可以用一個句子表達：
My father emigrated from Taipei to US.
=My father is an immigrant. He emigrated from Taipei.
=My father immigrated to US.
